About Andrew Terhorst

I am currently a research group leader at the Meraka Institute. I lead a group called 'ICT for Earth Observation'. The primary focus of this group is research and development of an open service-oriented, multi-agent systems architecture for the 'Sensor Web'. We also do research on feature extraction from satellite images, data/information fusion and high-speed image processing chains.

My other research interest is sustainability science – in particular the integration of sustainability into core business strategy. I am using agent-based modelling and complexity theory to assess the ability of companies to adapt to changing circumstances. I hope to get a Ph.D in Management Studies on this topic through the Leadership Centre at the University of Kwazulu Natal, Durban, South Africa.

I enjoy the outdoors and am keen on hiking, mountain biking, sailing (Hobie Cat) and surfing (though my current job location (Pretoria, South Africa) does not allow me to enjoy these water sports). I am married to Suzanne and have a son called Oliver.
